Dundalk will sign St Patrick’s Athletic centre-back Sean Hoare to replace Preston-bound star defender Andy Boyle, a source close to the player has told The Season Ticket.
He will sign a two-year deal with the Lilywhites.
Preston North End have beaten off widespread competition to land Dundalk defender Andy Boyle, according to reports and Hoare will be given the unenviable task of replacing one of the top players in the league at Oriel Park.
The 22-year-old made 21 appearances for St Pat’s last season in what was a mixed year for the Dublin club, winning the League Cup but failing to make Europe for the first time since 2009.
Hoare was linked to Hull City in 2015 before deciding to stay at Pats. He has international pedigree, having made 5 appearances for the Ireland u-21 side.
Hoare was given the honour of captaining the Republic of Ireland under-21’s against the Republic of Ireland Amateur International team in 2015.
Fellow Dundalk star Daryl Horgan is expected to sign for Preston with Boyle, with Bray’s Dylan Connolly considered as a replacement.
