Michael Conlan has beaten Nicola Cipolletta by stoppage in Las Vegas.
The Belfast boxer stopped Cipolletta in the seventh round after a dominant performance which extends his professional record to nine wins from nine fights (six knockouts).
Conlan had won every round before the referee intervened in the seventh, as the 26-year-old rained down shots on Cipolletta on the ropes.
The former Olympian is due to fight again on the Carl Frampton v Josh Warrington card in Manchester on December 22nd, and wants to face a higher calibre of opponent.
“He was just negative,” Conlan told ESPN afterwards.
“Now I want real opponents. I want top 10, top 15 opponents.”
Vladimir Nikitin – who controversially beat Conlan in the Rio Olympics – has been touted as a potential opponent. Nikitin beat Clay Burns via unanimous decision earlier in the fight card.
The ref stopped Cipolletta from taking a pounding and the Italian was not pleased.
