The Stat-Smith casts his eye over 10 of the best football stats from the past week of action…
Real Madrid have broken the record for the longest unbeaten run in La Liga. Barcelona went 39 games unbeaten in 2016, but Zidane’s Madrid have now gone one better, and are now unbeaten in 40 league matches.
Manchester United have yet to lose a game this season that Michael Carrick has played. The midfielder has made 15 appearances, of which United have won 13 and drawn two.
Dele Alli has been in blistering form in recent weeks. The young midfielder has reached 20 Premier League goals faster than Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes. Amazingly, Spurs have never lost a game that Alli has scored in.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, perhaps surprisingly, has the best goal and assist rate of any striker in Europe’s top five leagues.
Dan Gosling ran 14km – more than any other player this season – in Bournemouth’s entertaining 3-3 draw with Arsenal last week, breaking Adam Lallana’s record from earlier in the season.
Liverpool were held to a drab 0-0 draw by Plymouth at Anfield on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp decided to field a weakened team, with five teenagers in the starting lineup. In fact, it was Liverpool’s youngest starting eleven in history.
John Obi Mikel has left Chelsea for the Chinese Super League. No player took longer to score his first goal for the club (185 games).
Vincent Janssen has struggled to adapt to English football. The Dutch international has just three goals for Spurs (all penalties), and has now taken the most shots (33) of any Premier League striker in all competitions without scoring.
Mike Phelan was sacked by Hull City last week, and the former Manchester United assistant boss leaves the club with the second worst win rate in the club’s history. He won just 3 of his 20 matches (15%), with only Iain Dowie having a worse record (11%).
Bournemouth left back Charlie Daniels has provided more assists (8) since the start of last season than any other defender in the Premier League.
