Padraig Amond hasn’t been included in the final Republic of Ireland squad for the forthcoming European Championship qualifiers.
The Newport County striker had been included in the provisional squad, but is one of 14 players omitted from the finalized 23-man squad to face Gibraltar and Georgia in the coming weeks.
Luton Town striker James Collins has made the cut, but fellow strikers Scott Hogan and Aiden O’Brien have also been left out.
Goalkeepers Kieran O’Hara and Caoimhin Kelleher drop out of the squad, while six defenders have also been excluded.
Cyrus Christie misses out, with Seamus Coleman and Matt Doherty providing Mick McCarthy with two excellent options at right back, and Stephen Ward, Jimmy Dunne, Kevin Long, and Derrick Williams are the other casualties.
Midfielders James McCarthy, Daryl Horgan, David Meyler, and Aiden McGeady are the other four players not to make the cut.
Glenn Whelan – who scored the winner in Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over Martin O’Neill’s Nottingham Forest – has been included.
