Boxing | Frampton forced to pull out of Dominguez fight with freak injury

Carl Frampton has been forced to pull out of his fight against Emmanuel Dominguez due to a freak injury.

‘The Jackal’ has had to cancel Saturday’s fight in Philadelphia after breaking his fifth metacarpal after an “ornament” fell on his hand in a hotel lobby.

Frampton uploaded an explanation of the incident – accompanied by a video of his damaged hand – on his official Twitter page.

“Today a freak accident occurred and I won’t be able to take part in my fight against Emmanuel Dominguez,” the 32-year-old wrote.

“A large ornament, in the hotel lobby, was knocked over accidentally and hit me on the left hand, fracturing the fifth metacarpal.

“I’m extremely disappointed for the travelling support and for myself and my team. I’ve put everything into this camp, I’ve been away from my amazing wife and kids for most of it and it all feels like a waste.”

“Although it was out of my control I’d like to apologise to Emmanuel, MTK Global, Top Rank, my team, my travelling support and to my wife and kids for being away so long. I’m absolutely devasted.”

The former two-weight world champion (26-2) hasn’t fought since his world title defeat to Josh Warrington in December.
