Football | Lee Grace commits to Shamrock Rovers

Lee Grace has signed a new three-year deal at Shamrock Rovers.

The defender has been heavily linked with a move abroad following the Hoops’ FAI Cup triumph, but has now committed his future to the club.

Grace – who joined the Tallaght club from Galway United in 2017 – was training with Championship side Hull City in recent weeks ahead of a proposed move to the Yorkshire club, but no move has materialized.

The 27-year-old was included in Rovers’ squad update on Monday, with manager Stephen Bradley confirming the centre half’s new deal on RTE2fm show ‘Game On’.

“Lee has committed to three years with us,” Bradley said.

“We’re delighted. He had three offers from outside of the country. When he came back from holiday he rang and said he wanted to sign.

“He didn’t want to do any of them. He’s happy and wants to push on. We’re delighted because he is a top player. He is a leader, a real man.

“He has so many really strong attributes that are important in our dressing-room. Players listen to him. Staff listen to him.

“On the pitch, he calms us down and gets us playing. He is a great age for us and we’re delighted he has committed to us for the next three years.”

Republic of Ireland international Jack Byrne has also been included in the 21-man squad.

New signing Liam Scales, who joined the Hoops from UCD, has been included in Bradley’s panel ahead of the 2020 season.
