Rob Kearney has been omitted from Andy Farrell’s first 45-man Ireland squad for a training session later this month.
Kieran Marmion, Sean Cronin, John Ryan and Jordi Murphy are the other notable absentees as Ireland under a new era under Farrell, which sees eight uncapped players make the squad.
Devin Toner and John Cooney have been recalled to the international fold after missing out on Joe Schmidt’s World Cup squad in Japan.
19 Leinster players have been included, with 12 representatives from Munster, nine from Ulster and five Connacht players completing the squad.
There are plenty of new faces in the bloated squad, including Ulster duo Billy Burns and Tom O’Toole, Connacht’s Caolin Blade and Leinster contingent Max Deegan, Will Connors, Ronan Kelleher, Jamison Gibson-Par and Caelan Doris.
Ulster’s Marty Moore, who hasn’t represented Ireland since 2015, is also back in the squad.
The squad will gather at the training base in the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown later this week.
Farrell will hold his first press conference as Ireland head coach in Abbotstown on December 23rd.
