Boxing | Conlan to face Nikitin at Madison Square Garden

Michael Conlan will finally face Vladimir Nikitin at Madison Square Garden on December 14th.

The Belfast boxer was due to face his Rio 2016 rival in Belfast in August, but Nikitin was forced to withdraw from the bout after tearing his bicep.

Diego Alberto Ruiz stepped in as a late replacement, suffering a ninth-round stoppage to the hometown favourite at Falls Park.

Conlan will now get his chance to avenge his controversial loss to the Russian at the Olympics three years ago.

Nikitin was won all three of his fights to date since following Conlan into the professional ranks, while Conlan has amassed an impressive 12-0 record.

The fight will take place as a co-feature on the same card as unbeaten welterweight world champion Terence Crawford's title defence against Egidijus Kavaliauskas, with Richard Commey's fight against Teofimo Lopez making it a triple main event at the iconic New York venue.

"He finally gets his wish, and I know he wants to correct the tremendous injustice of the Rio Olympics," Conlan's promoter Bob Arum said.
