Boxing | Katie Taylor to face Amanda Serrano in May

Katie Taylor will finally fight Amanda Serrano in Manchester on the second of May.

Two-weight world champion Taylor, who has won all 15 of her professional fights thus far, will face the American on the undercard of Dillian Whyte's heavyweight clash against Alexander Povetkin at Manchester Arena.

The long-awaited fight, which has been billed as the biggest ever in women's boxing, was agreed on Wednesday night according to ESPNs Dan Rafael.

Puerto Rican Serrano (38-1-1) is a seven-weight world champion, has won 24 fights in a row since her unanimous decision defeat to Frida Wallberg way back in 2012.

She is the reigning WBO featherweight world champion, and stopped Brazil’s Simone de Silva in just three rounds earlier this year.

2012 Olympic gold medalist Taylor beat Christine Linardatou by unanimous decision in her last fight to claim the WBO super lightweight title, making her Ireland's third two-weight world champion after Carl Frampton and Steve Collins.

The Bray boxer has already beaten Amanda's sister Cindy, defeating the Puerto Rican fighter by unanimous decision in Boston in October 2018.

Both Taylor and Serrano are promoted by Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, and the fight is likely to be streamed by DAZN.

DAZN will launch in Ireland and the UK on the day of the fight as part of a large-scale global expansion which will make the streaming service available in over 200 countries.
