Bohemian FC have confirmed the signing of Lys Mousset on a free transfer.
Mousset, 28, was signed by Sheffield United for a then-club record €13 million from Bournemouth in 2019.
The French striker scored nine goals and provided four assists in 99 Premier League appearances for the Cherries and the Blades, but has seen his career peter out in recent years.
Bohs manager Alan Reynolds expressed his delight at bringing the former Premier League attacker, who has been out of contract for 13 months since an unsuccessful spell at VfL Bochum, to Dalymount Park.
“I am over the moon to bring in a player of Lys’ quality to the club," Reynolds told the club website.
"He has been in with us the past few weeks and we have really liked what we have seen and he has really settled in well. The level Lys has played at speaks for itself. He is an exceptional talent and he wants to come here, enjoy his football and score goals.
“I know that Bohs fans will take to him. There has been a lot of excitement from our fans since news broke that Lys was training with us but they will know too that we will have to be patient with him.
“He hasn’t played for a period of time, so it will take him time to get him up to the level we want him to get to fitness-wise. But he has a natural level of real star quality that will excite supporters and be a massive threat for us up front.”
Mousset signed for Bournemouth for €7.5 million ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season after coming through the ranks at Le Havre. He made 71 appearances for Bournemouth, scoring five goals, before his big-money move to Bramall Lane.
The Frenchman scored six goals and registered four assists in his debut season for the Blades, but failed to find the net in just 13 appearances in his second season at the club as Sheffield suffered relegation to the Championship.
Mousset bagged three goals in seven appearances in the second tier in the 2011/22 season before joining Serie A club Salernita on loan midseason. Mousset failed to score and made just four appearances for the Italian side, and signed for Bochum on a two-year deal in August 2022.
The switch to Germany proved to be a disaster, with Mousset failing to record a single appearance for the Bundesliga club, and being accused of a lack of professionalism.
Mousset was loaned to Nimes in 2023, where he scored one goal in 11 matches before suffering an Achilles injury. He's been a free agent ever since.
Mousset is Bohs' seventh signing of the transfer window. Connor Parsons, Alex Lacey, Colm Whelan, Niall Morahan and John Mountney have all signed for the Dublin club, while Kian Best has also come in on loan.
