Football | FAI decide not to offer Gleeson new contract

The FAI has decided not to offer Republic of Ireland manager Eileen Gleeson a new contract after the Girls in Green's failure to qualify for Euro 2025.

Gleeson became Ireland's permanent manager just 16 months ago in December 2023 after a successful period as interim manager following Vera Pauw's dismissal earlier that year.

The former Peamount United manager led the women's national team to promotion to League A in the UEFA Nations League in 2023 but Ireland finished bottom of their Nations League group in 2024.

Gleeson has now paid the price for Ireland's heartbreaking Euro 2025 play-off defeat to Wales.

“On behalf of the Football Association of Ireland, we acknowledge the dedication and passion that Eileen has showed in leading the Ireland Women’s National Team over the last 16 months," FAI CEO David Courell said.

"Eileen has long been a terrific ambassador for women & girls’ football in Ireland and she leaves behind a positive impact on our Women’s National Team that included an excellent UEFA Nations League campaign, a memorable win over France in Cork and a run to the Play-Offs for EURO 2025. We thank Eileen for everything that she has done.”

The process of replacing Gleeson will begin immediately.
